Safe things to check first

- 1Make sure the water shutoff behind or under the appliance is fully open and the supply line isn't kinked.
- 2Check whether the ice maker's own on/off switch or arm got bumped off while someone was reorganizing the freezer.
- 3Look at the freezer temperature. Above about 10°F, the mold may never freeze fast enough to harvest.
- 4Note how old the water filter is. A badly clogged one starves the maker even when everything else is working.

Is it worth repairing an ice maker or should I replace the fridge?
Depends on what failed. A valve, thermostat, or fill tube is a routine repair on an otherwise healthy refrigerator. If the sealed system is going too, we'll say so plainly and let you decide.
Why did my ice maker stop after a power outage?
Control boards sometimes lose their cycle state. A long outage can also let the mold thaw and refreeze into a solid block. Emptying the bin and cycling power fixes some of these. If it stays dead, call us.
How long does an ice maker repair visit take?
Most are one trip. Diagnosis takes a while because we have to watch a fill and a harvest cycle, not just probe parts. If a component has to be ordered, we schedule a return.
My ice smells bad even after I dumped the bin. Now what?
Replace the water filter, then throw out the first two batches. If the odor hangs on, the supply line or the bin itself may need attention, or the freezer is holding food odors that the ice keeps absorbing.
Can you fix a standalone or undercounter ice machine?
Yes. Those units add a pump, a drain, and often a condenser to the list of suspects. Cleaning the drain and condenser solves a fair share of the slow-production calls we get.
