Built-In Microwave Repairs
We repair built-in microwaves across the Southeast out of our Huntsville shop, so call us and describe the symptom before you start measuring cabinets. Maybe the light comes on and the fan hums but nothing gets hot. Maybe the door latch sticks and the unit acts dead. Either way, here's how we sort out repair from replacement.

Age matters, but not the way you think
A built-in that's a few years old is usually worth fixing. One pushing fifteen years is a different conversation. Door switches, magnetrons, control boards and turntable motors all fail, and all of them can be replaced. What ages badly is the cabinet fit and the door frame. Once hinges wear and the door no longer closes square, the interlock switches get abused over and over, which gives you a chain of small failures instead of one clean fault. We look at how the door sits before anything else. A tight door on an older unit is a good sign.
The fault tells us more than the model number
Some symptoms are simple. No light, no fan, nothing at all? Often a blown thermal fuse or a door switch. Runs but won't heat? Usually the high-voltage side. Turntable stuck while everything else works is a cheap motor. Sparking inside with burn marks on the waveguide cover is fixable too, and a cover is a small part. Where we get cautious is smoke, a burnt smell in the cabinet, or a scorched control panel. Heat damage spreads. If wiring insulation has cooked, we're chasing a moving target, and we'll say so plainly.
Parts availability is the quiet dealbreaker
Built-in microwaves and microwave-hood combos get discontinued fast. Manufacturers keep control boards and magnetrons around for a while, then stop. When we place the call, we find out quickly whether a part is stocked, backordered, or gone. A common part means a normal repair. A discontinued board on an odd trim size means we're hunting salvage inventory, and the wait can stretch. We'd rather tell you that up front than leave a hole in your cabinetry for weeks. Trim kits and door assemblies are especially hard to source on older built-ins.
Humid-South wear we see on nearly every call
North Alabama summers push moist air through every kitchen. Range hood microwaves pull grease-laden steam through the filter, and that mix settles on the control board ribbon and the interlock switches. Contacts corrode. Buttons get mushy or fire twice. Fans that run in damp air collect a sticky film on the blade and start to whine or rattle. We clean and inspect those areas as part of the visit. A lot of intermittent faults down here trace back to moisture and cooking grease, not a dead component.
When we tell you to replace it
There are honest cases. Cabinet rust or a rotted mounting area means the unit isn't safely supported anymore. Multiple failed systems at once, like a dead board plus a weak magnetron, stack up fast. Discontinued parts with no salvage source end the conversation. And if the interior cavity is pitted or arcing through the paint, that's not something we patch over. We'll walk you through what we found, what it needs, and what we'd do if it were our kitchen. Then you decide. Call us and describe what it's doing. We can often narrow it down over the phone.

Built-In Microwave Repairs — fast answers
Can I keep using a microwave that sparks?
No. Stop using it and unplug it if you can reach the outlet safely. Sparking usually means a burnt waveguide cover or arcing inside the cavity, and both get worse with each use. Have it looked at first.
Why does my microwave run but not heat food?
The turntable, light and fan run on a separate circuit from the heating side, so everything can look normal while the high-voltage components have failed. That's a common repair and one of the easier faults to pin down.
Is a hood-combo harder to fix than a countertop unit?
It's more work to get to, since the unit is mounted to studs and vented. The internal repairs are similar. Removal and remounting adds time, which we factor in when we schedule the visit.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call us or fill out the form. Describe what the appliance does and does not do. Noises, error codes, smells, puddles. Brand and model help. That detail lets us plan the visit right.
- Step 2
We diagnose in person
A technician comes to your kitchen or laundry room and tests the machine instead of guessing. Controls, heating parts, motors, seals, drains. You hear what failed and what the repair involves before work starts.
- Step 3
You approve the repair
Nothing gets replaced until you say go. Common parts are handled on site when we have them. If a part must be ordered, we tell you that up front and schedule the return.

Why homeowners call us
- Symptoms, not scriptsA washer that fills but never spins is a different problem than one that spins but never drains. We ask questions that narrow it down, then confirm with testing. Guesswork wastes parts and your afternoon.
- Independent and brand-wideWe are not tied to any manufacturer. That means we work on the big laundry and kitchen names side by side, and we recommend the repair that makes sense for your machine, not one brand's playbook.
- Regional coverageBased in Huntsville, we serve homeowners in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina and South Carolina. One number to call whether you are in a city neighborhood or a small town outside it.
- Straight explanationsYou will hear what part failed and why, in plain words. If a machine is worn past sensible repair, we say so. Homeowners make better decisions when nobody is hiding behind jargon.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and the rest.
- Straight answersSome machines aren't worth the part, and we say so before you spend anything.
